Welcome to Itoh Lab.

Living systems carry and utilize oxygen as an oxidant to synthesize essential compound or to degrade toxic compounds in order to maintain their life. The main players in such processes are metalloenzymes involving copper and/or iron ion in their center.

These metal ions are abundant on the earth, however, they need to have "special tricks" to exert their potentials. It has been gradually revealed that their reactions are precisely controlled with protein envelopes.

We are deeply interested in the incredible natural systems, and trying to  create novel molecular systems mimicking and outstripping such systems.
Our hope is discovery of ground-breaking molecules or theories which can contribute sustainable society in future.
